HOME CINEMA

IT STARTED WITH A MAN WITH A PLAN, A BANGED UP MEDIA ROOM AND A CLASSY EYE FOR THE FINER THINGS IN LIFE.

On March 2018 the call came through to us, BNC Technology. He required a plush refurb on his Media Room in northern Johannesburg, which had been severely struck by storm damage. He knew what he wanted. We knew what we could do to create his vision. But none of us could have imagined at the time how this banged up space would ultimately transform into an exclusive corner of lavish entertainment luxury.

AND THIS, IS WHERE THE STORY BEGINS.

We moved in. Quick and fast. We moved in. Quick and fast. We assessed the wrongs and the rights of the space, with as much dexterity and personal attention as possible. Our client had some good ideas. We had some good ideas. Together we began a journey that raised the game, the bar, the sound and the roof on the definitive delivery of smart home design ingenuity.

The outdated bits left on a delivery truck. The future-forward bits rolled in with a BNC Technology van. A bespoke, fully immersive, automated home cinema experience was about to get real for our most valued customer.

And this, is where the story begins.

WHAT HE SAID: Bring me the ultimate in Audio and Video Performance.

WHAT WE DID: Simulate the frequency response of the room using our specialist room simulation software.

WHAT WE DISCOVERED

The perfect listening and viewing position through our specialized technical design process. We understood the right requirements for all speakers which confirmed the final layout of the room, ensuring we’d get the best audio out of the room size. We uncovered the optimal screen size required in our space planning and specified the correct projector based on room lighting, throw distances and the desired projection image size.

INTERIORS. WITH LOVE.

It was out with the old and in with plush interiors. Grey & black interiors transformed to fabrics and carpet.

WHAT HE SAID: Design me a Cinema Room spectacular – with comfortable acoustic properties, high performance and an accurate experience.

WHAT WE DID: We set the benchmark by upgrading his outdated surround processor. He approved. Amplifiers remained. He had his way

WHAT WE INSTALLED

We went supremely seamless and slick with hidden equipment. The sound came through the screen for an A-class acoustically transparent experience with 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos surround sound configuration powered by M&K.

Elegant textures adorned the room for a silky, comfy finish.

The network received an intelligent upgrade to accommodate the new tech with new DSTV / speakers.

WHAT HE SAID: I want a relaxed space with plush lighting.

WHAT WE DID: Upscaled lighting with LED’s for highlighted features. This includes star down lighters for superior contrasting of panels, at the rear of the room.

WHAT WE INSTALLED

A contemporary space with LED light trips in the left and right fins, providing symmetry as well as a feature in the space.

Star downlights were installed on the rear wall to highlight the elegant textures of the fabric with an LED strip beneath the wall panels providing more feature lighting to enhance the space.

Lighting is controlled via a Control4 Wireless Solution which runs his room only. The general system control is via a Control4 control system that makes operation of the audiovisual and lighting really simple.

Seeing that the client brief required the ultimate in Audio and Video Performance, our approach was to establish all Audio and Video specifications first and then complete the interiors after. The initial design process begin with our design team simulating the frequency response of the room in our specialist room simulation software. This process helps us establish as well as eliminate all Acoustical challenges that come with the room. These specialist findings assist us with the space planning, we were able to establish the perfect listening and viewing position in the technical design phase where all speaker requirements, positions are established as well as confirmation of the final layout of the room that would bring the best out of the room size. We are also able to establish the optimal screen size and specify the correct projector based on room lighting, throw distances and the desired projection image size.
