Over the past few weeks, we have had the privilege of introducing our Platinum Home Cinema through a series of private viewings, conversations and features.
Platinum is something we have been working towards for a long time. For me, it represents what luxury home cinema can become when design, acoustic precision, lighting, control and cinematic performance are considered from the very beginning.
Valued at R10 million, this room was created as a benchmark for BNC, a space that shows what is possible when technology does not stand apart from the design, but becomes part of the experience.
What has meant the most to me is watching people step into the room, experience it for themselves and understand that a great cinema is not just something you watch. It is something you feel.
The Platinum Home Cinema Launch
We launched our Platinum Home Cinema through a series of private viewing experiences at the BNC showroom.
The experience begins before you even enter the cinema. Guests are welcomed through a dedicated entrance foyer, designed to set the tone for what is to come. From custom-designed, handcrafted interior finishes to hidden speakers, a whiskey lift, popcorn machine, sweets and carefully considered details throughout, every element was created to build anticipation before stepping into the room.
The Macallan was also part of the launch experience, adding a refined touch to the evenings and complementing the atmosphere created around Platinum.
Inside, the Platinum Home Cinema was designed to make an immediate impression, not only through the way it looks, but through the way it feels.
Every detail, from the seating and lighting to the sound, visuals, acoustics and control, was carefully planned to create a fully immersive cinema experience.
For me, the best part has been seeing the reaction. The smiles, the surprise, and that moment of silence when the room takes over.
That is what great cinema should do. It should pull you into the moment and make you forget where you are.
Why We Created Platinum
We wanted Platinum to show what luxury home cinema can be when design and technology work together from the start.
A high-performance cinema is not only about equipment. It is about how the entire space is planned, engineered and experienced.
The room includes bold interior details, rich finishes and challenging surfaces that required careful acoustic planning and calibration. The goal was to protect the design of the space while still delivering the level of performance expected from a world-class cinema.
Platinum proves that luxury, atmosphere and technical performance can exist in the same space when every detail is handled with intention.
Platinum at a Glance
Behind the experience is a carefully engineered cinema system designed for reference-level performance.
Platinum features a 7.1.4 audio system with a flagship 17-speaker Meridian Audio configuration, supported by four 15-inch subwoofers for depth, balance and physical presence.
Visually, the room is powered by a Barco Njord CinemaScope projector paired with a 4-metre CinemaScope screen, delivering scale, contrast and colour accuracy.
The room has also been acoustically engineered using advanced treatment and isolation materials, with all technology discreetly integrated into the architecture so the experience remains the focus.
A Proud Moment for BNC
We are proud to share that our Platinum Home Cinema has been shortlisted by Design et Al for The International Design & Architecture Awards.
The winners will be announced in London this September, and it is an incredible honour to have our work recognised internationally.
For me, this recognition is about more than one room. It is a reminder that South African design, engineering and craftsmanship can stand confidently on a global stage.
Platinum was designed, engineered and delivered right here in Africa, and I am proud to see that work being recognised beyond our borders.
